Joel Harrington is historicus. Hij is gespecialiseerd in de geschiedenis van vroegmodern Duitsland. Voor zijn boek The Unwanted Child: The Fate of
Foundlings, Orphans, and Juvenile Criminals in Early Modern Germany, (2009) werd hem in 2010 de Roland H. Bainton Prize for History toegekend.
